About
"Buy this. Buy that." This is what we glean from billboards on a daily basis. But how often does a billboard say the exact opposite?
That's right. Our billboard campaign will ask people to Buy Nothing.
In a period of economic turbulence, having less money means less spending. Buy Nothing Day was created in hopes of raising public awareness of excessive consumerism. Instead of shopping, we are encouraged to consider consumption's impact on not only the depletion of resources but also global inequities. We are prompted to ask questions such as how and where consumer products are produced. We are persuaded to differentiate between needs and wants.
Among product advertisements that differ only in appearance, this billboard will create an impression through contradiction. In order to reach as many people as possible, we have chosen to station our EpicStep billboard in Los Angeles. Over the course of 30 days, our billboard will be seen by millions of people.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated in helping reach our goal. Whether you pledge $1, share on your FB wall, or simply mention it in a discussion, every bit of exposure furthers our cause that much more.
This campaign has been tagged BILLBOARD, BLACK FRIDAY, BUY NOTHING, BUY NOTHING DAY, and CONSUMPTION.
